Thanks to our supporters, the Oxford Lafayette Humane Society has met the needs of thousands of animals for more than 30 years. There are many ways that you can become involved in our organization and help our homeless animals. Your compassion and care for the well-being of our animals will make a huge difference in their lives! From providing direct animal care to volunteering your time at fundraisers or to drive transports, there is a volunteer opportunity that matches everyone's skills and interests.
All volunteers must complete our volunteer application and a brief follow-up interview which will allow us to better match our volunteers' interests and expertise with tasks and projects we have available. Once volunteers have applied, interviewed, and been approved, volunteers will be trained by shelter staff at a volunteer orientation session. The volunteer orientation sessions will be scheduled twice a month or every other week (dates to be determined).
All volunteers (and visitors) under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised at all times by their own parent or their own legal guardian while at our facility or off-site event.
All volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian sign a release form before volunteering.
All volunteers, who have applied, interviewed, and been approved, will be scheduled on the daily schedule according to their availability and our need. This NEW protocol will allow us to ensure our volunteers are utilized efficiently and most productively.
Volunteer scheduling is limited to our public hours of operation: Monday - Saturday from 12 pm - 5 pm.
Volunteers are required to check-in at the front desk at the beginning of each shift and check-out at the front desk at the end of each shift.
Volunteers are not allowed to bring friends or people with them. If your friends would like to join you, we will be happy for them to apply, too!
